Franklin when I invited him to be the keynote speaker celebrating the 25 anniversary of the African American Archives in Cleveland in 1995. The project is named in dedication to the great historian, John Hope Franklin, and his seminal work, the nine editions of From Slavery to Freedom: A History of African Americans first published in 1947. This site is an online version of a larger project that included an award winning exhibition, public programs, research, workshops, and education lessons and teachings. The Senator John Heinz History Center has developed a micro site to feature its award winning exhibition project that chronicles the African experience in America and its manifestation of freedom in Pittsburgh and elsewhere.
